Product Overview

A forged steel globe valve is the valve you fit when a small, high-pressure line has to be turned down, not simply turned off. The disc travels against the flow and closes onto a seat set in the middle of the body, so flow can be held at part-open positions without the chatter and seat damage a gate valve takes when it is used to throttle.

We build the forged pattern for small-bore, high-pressure work and the cast steel globe valve for the larger sizes and the heavier bodies, with marine cast steel specified where seawater or deck wash is in the medium. Every valve is handwheel operated, so nothing depends on an actuator or a power supply to close a line.

Industrial pipework and shipboard systems ask different things of the same valve. A chemical plant cares about a stable set point and a seat that does not weep; a ship's ballast or bilge line calls for a marine globe valve, with a body that survives salt water and a handwheel a duty engineer can work in gloves. Both duties are covered by this range, and both are quoted the same way: you give us the line class, size and medium, and we quote the valve to that class rather than to a generic catalogue rating.

Send the schedule and we will confirm bore, end connection, face-to-face length and body material against it before anything is cut.

- Throttling that holds a set point. The disc works across the seat instead of sliding past it, so a part-open valve stays where it was set rather than drifting with the flow. That is what makes this the right throttling valve on a control branch and the wrong one on a straight isolation duty. - Shut-off you can trust between maintenance intervals. Seating faces are machined to mate and the bonnet joint is bolted rather than welded, so the only route for a weep is a gasket you can reach with the valve still in the line. - Forged or cast, matched to the duty. Forged bodies take shock loads and high classes in small bores; cast bodies give room for a full flow path and a stable seat in the larger sizes. You are not pushed into one construction for the whole schedule. - Marine construction where it counts. Marine cast steel resists the pitting that salt water and wet-deck atmospheres cause on ordinary carbon steel, which is why the same pattern appears in ballast, bilge and cooling systems. - Bolted bonnet for in-line service. Trim, gasket and packing can be reached by lifting the bonnet with the body still flanged into the pipe — no cutting, no re-welding, no realignment of the spool. - Free handwheel action. Stem and gland threads are cut so the wheel turns without binding under pressure; a duty engineer can crack a stiff valve open with a normal wheel rather than a bar on the spokes. - Built to drop into existing spools. Face-to-face length and flange drilling follow the standard your line was built to, so a replacement is a bolt-out, bolt-in job rather than a spool modification.

Forged Steel and Cast Steel Bodies

Forged and cast bodies are not two grades of the same thing — they are two ways of making a pressure boundary, and the right one depends on bore, class and how the valve will be handled.

On a forged steel globe valve the body starts as a billet and is shaped under heat, so the grain follows the wall and there is no cast skin to inspect. That suits small-bore, high-pressure lines and takes knocks on a pipe rack without cracking. If your branch is a high-pressure chemical or steam line in a small bore, forged is usually the answer.

On a cast steel globe valve the body is poured to shape, which makes large bores practical and leaves room for a proper seat ring and an uninterrupted flow path, with a bolted bonnet. On larger lines the casting is normally the more sensible choice, and it is what most plant and marine pipework uses in the mid-range.

Around both, our works runs the standard material set: WCB carbon steel and CF8 stainless for the body, HT200 and QT450 cast iron for the specific types that call for it, such as lift check globe valves. Grades are matched to the medium rather than assumed — a caustic line and a cooling water line do not get the same trim, and neither gets the same packing.

Marine duty gets its own treatment. A marine globe valve in marine cast steel is specified where salt water, deck wash or a humid engine-room atmosphere will be in contact, and where the yard or the vessel's specification calls for it. Our marine-grade valves are quoted to JIS F7358 5K where that standard applies; if the paperwork names another JIS F number, send it with the inquiry and we will confirm body, flange drilling and test pressure against it.

Installation and Maintenance

  1. Check the valve against the schedule before it leaves the crate: size, class, body material, flange drilling and flow arrow. A valve will bolt to the wrong class flange if nobody looks.
  2. Flush or blow the line first, and on JIS pipework fit a JIS 10k y strainer upstream. Grit and weld slag that reach the seat during commissioning are the most common cause of a valve that never seals properly afterwards.
  3. Fit the valve with the flow arrow pointing the way the line runs. A globe valve installed backwards still works, but as a throttling valve it performs badly and hammers.
  4. Bring the flanges together square. Pulling the pipe to the valve with the bolts puts a bending load into the body that shows up later as a weeping bonnet joint.
  5. Use a gasket suited to the medium, and tighten the flange bolts in a cross pattern over two or three passes rather than one.
  6. Open and close the valve through its full travel before the line is pressurised, so you know the stem runs free and the seat is clear.
  7. On first pressure, check the bolted bonnet joint and the packing gland as well as the flanges. A gland that weeps on day one usually needs a quarter turn, not a new valve.
  8. Mark the throttling position you have set, so the next shift can find it again — most drifting complaints turn out to be a valve nobody reset.
  9. Log the installation date and the duty. Inspection intervals follow the medium and the cycling, not the calendar: a clean water line and a slurry line do not get the same schedule.
  10. Hold the small spares that stop a job: bonnet gasket, gland packing and, on valves that are cycled hard, a spare disc and seat ring. All of them fit with the body still in the line.

Use Scenarios

  • Shipboard ballast and bilge systems. Seawater, silt and weeks idle between voyages: a marine globe valve has to open after sitting shut and hold a level when it does. A body built for salt water and a bonnet that opens in place are what make that work in a pump room.
  • Engine-room cooling and fuel-oil lines. Throttling duty on a pump discharge, set once and left. As a throttling valve, a globe valve keeps that setting; a gate valve crept half open by vibration would be the wrong fit here.
  • Propulsion and auxiliary pipework. Variable pressure, vibration and a moving floor. Handwheel operation with no actuator to fail is often preferred for these positions.
  • Chemical plant process control. Aggressive media and temperature swings with a set point that has to stay put: forged bodies on the small high-pressure branches, cast steel on the larger lines.
  • Steam distribution and condensate. Throttling steam is where seat erosion shows up first, and a valve that closes onto a renewable seat face outlasts one that slides shut.
  • Water treatment and pumping stations. Isolation plus occasional throttling on a header, where one valve has to do both jobs without a bypass and a y strainer upstream keeps grit off the seat.
  • Dry-dock and retrofit work. Replacing a valve on a spool that is already made up: the flange drilling and face-to-face length on the schedule decide whether the job is a swap or a re-cut.

Ordering, Export and Delivery

  • Send the line schedule. Size, pressure class, standard reference (JIS, DIN, GOST or ANSI/AWWA), medium, working temperature and the end connection you need. With those on the inquiry the quotation matches the spool instead of being adjusted after the order. - State the class in writing. The class on your schedule sets the body, the flange and the test pressure; a quotation without it is only a price for a valve of roughly the right shape. - Quantity and delivery date. Tell us the quantity, when you need it and whether this is a single replacement or a stocking line, and we will confirm the production slot and delivery date against it. - Marking and private label. Nameplates, packing marks and carton labelling can be produced to your artwork, with the authorisation documents agreed before production starts. Paperwork for globe valves and for the wider JIS and marine series — invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and the compliance documents the destination requires — is prepared with the shipment so it clears customs without a second agent. - Strainers on the same order. If the package also includes strainers, list them on the same inquiry. We quote the valve and the y strainer on separate lines, so each item can be checked against any existing source on your list. - Packing. Flange faces go out protected and bores capped, with sea freight crated. Confirm the packing standard your site or your own customer requires before the order is released. - Drawings and approvals. If your process needs a dimensional drawing signed off before release, say so at inquiry; for sample availability, ask your sales contact and we will set the sequence. - The seat takes the damage first. A globe valve closes a disc onto a seat that sits in the flow path, so scale, weld slag and sand work on that face before anything downstream notices. Once it is scored, no amount of handwheel pressure brings the shut-off back. - Put the strainer upstream. On new pipework, after any shutdown, and on lines fed from a tank or an open intake, an inline y strainer ahead of the valve catches solids while they are still a cleaning job rather than a trim replacement. - Same class, same drilling. We build strainers alongside the valve range, so a JIS line can be quoted with a jis 10k y strainer flanged to the same drilling and face-to-face length as the valve it protects. - One works, one document set. If the inspector wants the valve and the strainer on a single test record, source both from one works. Y type strainer manufacturers who build only strainers cannot put the valve on that record; we build both. - Existing approvals stay put. If you already buy from a y strainer supplier on your approved list, keep that source. The valve is quoted on its own line and nothing in the quotation depends on where the strainer comes from. - What to send with the inquiry. Where the strainer sits in the run, the mesh or perforation you need, the medium, and whether the valve and strainer have to be pressure-tested together.

Scale & Supply Capability

LONGYAO WOYU VALVE CO., LTD. is a valve manufacturing factory exporting to buyers in more than 40 countries, including Russia and Central Asia, Pakistan and South Asia, Korea and Vietnam, and the Middle East. We build to German DIN, Russian GOST, American ANSI/AWWA, Japanese JIS and British BS standards, so an importer can assemble a full catalogue across series from one supplier. Orders can ship under your own brand: we handle nameplates, packing marks and carton labelling to your artwork, with the authorisation documents agreed before production. Send your item list and we will confirm availability and delivery date.

Every valve is pressure-tested before it is packed: a shell test on the body and a seat test across the disc, both at the pressures the line class calls for. That is normal practice for this valve type rather than an extra, and the record can travel with the shipment when a project requires it. Material traceability runs back to the heat. Body castings and forgings are booked in against their certificates, and the grade marked on the body matches the grade on the paperwork — the first thing an inspector checks, and the first thing that goes wrong on a valve bought on price alone. Marking is set at the pattern stage, so size, pressure class, body material and the flow arrow are on the body itself and the valve can still be identified after a nameplate has been painted over or lost. Our management systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015, with ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management and ISO 45001:2008 for occupational health and safety alongside it. That governs how the works runs. The documents that matter for your order are the material certificate, the pressure-test record and the dimensional drawing, and all three can be issued against your purchase order. Third-party inspection is welcome. If your project uses a surveyor or a classification society, tell us at inquiry so the inspection is booked into the production schedule rather than discovered at the loading dock.

FAQ

What materials are used in your globe valves, and do you offer marine-grade options?

Bodies are made in forged steel and cast steel, with cast iron grades used for specific types such as lift check globe valves. Marine-grade versions are built in marine cast steel and are quoted to JIS F7358 5K where that standard applies, which is what makes them hold up in salt water and wet-deck atmospheres. Send the medium and the standard number your specification names and we will confirm the body, trim and flange drilling against it.

Can you customize globe valves to meet specific pressure and size requirements?

Yes. We cover a broad range of sizes and pressure ratings, and where a standard pattern does not fit, we work with you on customized forged steel globe valves built to your operating specification. The starting point is your line schedule: size, class, medium, temperature and end connection. From that we confirm the construction and the test pressure, and the quotation states what will be built rather than a general description.

How do I ensure proper installation and maintenance for your globe valves?

Each order ships with the dimensional drawing and installation guidance covering orientation, flange make-up and gland adjustment. Routine maintenance follows your operating conditions — medium, cycling and temperature — rather than a fixed interval, so we set the recommendation against the duty you describe. On valves used for precise throttling, put the gland and the seating face on the shutdown inspection list; they are the two items that decide whether shut-off stays tight.

Will these globe valves fit our existing JIS, DIN or ANSI flanged pipework?

That is what the line class on your schedule is for. Flange drilling and face-to-face length are confirmed against the mating standard at quotation, so a replacement bolts into the spool that is already there. Send the standard number your line was built to, or a sketch with the flange outside diameter, bolt circle and facing-to-facing length measured on the old valve, and we will check the two against each other before production.

Which media can these globe valves handle?

Water, steam, seawater, fuel oil and chemical process fluids are all routine, including aggressive chemicals and varying temperatures where the body and trim are chosen for them. What sets the limits is the combination — line class, body material and trim — rather than the valve pattern on its own. Tell us the medium, its concentration and the working temperature, and we will specify the grade and confirm the limits on the datasheet.

Should a strainer be fitted upstream of the globe valve?

Yes, wherever the line can carry solids. This valve throttles across its seat, so grit that reaches the disc scores the face that does the sealing and the valve never shuts clean again. Fit the strainer ahead of the valve in the same line class — on JIS pipework that generally means a JIS 10k y strainer flanged to match. We build strainers alongside these valves so the two can be quoted together; if your approved vendor list already carries y strainer manufacturers for that item, we will supply the valve on its own and keep the two scopes separate.
